Jana & Sadie — The Felts Behind the Flour
Lake Baked started with a dream, a mother-daughter duo, and a little bit of luck. When the space that once housed the beloved Brookies Cookies in downtown Bigfork came available, Jana and Sadie Felt looked at each other and said yes before they could talk themselves out of it.
The Felts have deep roots here. Sadie and her siblings graduated from Bigfork High School, just like their dad. Jana grew up in Missoula and learned her way around a kitchen from the women who came before her – Caramel Rolls from her Granny, Fruit Pies from her mom, and a lasting obsession with hand pies she picked up while living in Australia with her daughter Hadley.
When they opened in 2020, their first goal was honoring Brookies’ legacy while weaving in the family recipes they’d grown up loving. But recipe development quickly became its own kind of joy. Testing, tasting, tweaking, refining something until it’s just right is genuinely their idea of a good time. That’s how Savory Rolls loaded with garlic butter, bacon, and cheese found their way into the case, and how Huckleberry Rolls with Wild Montana Huckleberries and Huckleberry Cream Cheese Frosting became the stuff of local legend.
The team gets up early. Really early. To measure, mix, roll, shape, frost, and bake fresh every single day. They keep the kitchen lively with 30-second dance parties and fresh lattes, and they care deeply about doing things right: quality local ingredients, eco-friendly packaging, and happy people on both sides of the counter.
When they’re not baking, you’ll find the Felts hiking in Glacier, visiting Hadley and her family, loving on their Cavalier puppies, and spending time out on Flathead Lake keeping an eye out for Elsie, the Flathead Lake Monster.
Come find us overlooking the Swan River. Grab a pastry, pull up an Adirondack chair, and stay a while. We’re glad you’re here.
Have you heard of the Flathead Lake Monster? Here at Lake Baked, Elsie is our mascot, a bit of a friend, a bit of a protector, a bit of fun. Make sure you wave hello next time you’re out on the lake and see her mysterious wake.
